Simon joined Spruson & Ferguson in 2007 and is a registered patent attorney specialising in the field of biotechnology. He completed a Bachelors degree specialising in molecular biology and genetics at the University of Sydney in 2000, graduating with first class Honours and a University Medal. He was awarded a PhD for his research in the area of molecular virology at the Westmead Millennium Institute in 2004.

Simon was a recipient of a CJ Martin Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council. He undertook postdoctoral research at the Pasteur Institute in France from 2004-2006, where he gained further expertise in the fields of human immunology and cellular biology. He has authored research articles and reviews in international journals and presented his work at a number of scientific conferences and meetings.
