Scott Berggren has more than 15 years experience in patent practice in Australia, the United States, and Singapore. His main areas of professional practice include drafting and prosecuting patent applications internationally, advising clients about their patent portfolios, and providing opinions on patent matters. He has technical knowledge across the fields of computer, electrical and electronic engineering, in a wide range of technologies such as semiconductors, telecommunications, optics, computer graphics, databases and data warehousing, antennas, medical devices, and
hard disk drives.
Scott has the rare qualification amongst Australian patent attorneys of also being a United States patent agent, with direct experience practising in the United States while working at a law firm in Los Angeles for several years. Scott joined the firm in 1994 and managed Spruson & Ferguson’s associated practice in Singapore (Ella Cheong Spruson & Ferguson (ECSF)) from 1998 to 2000.
Appointed a Principal in 1999, Scott is also admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Since 2000, he has lectured in Patent Systems at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Scott is a fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trademark Attorneys in Australia. He is also a member of the International Federation of Industrial Property Attorneys (FICPI), Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), and the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ).
