Rob McInnes has over 20 years’ experience in the management, commercialisation and enforcement of intellectual property rights. Rob assists clients with the negotiation and drafting of collaborative R&D, licensing, distribution and joint venture agreements, and with the establishment and financing of new technology ventures. His other areas of practice include marketing regulation, antitrust, unfair competition, product regulation and product liability.
Rob joined Spruson&Ferguson in 2003, after having successfully founded the associated law firm of another patent attorney firm. Previously he was the in-house Manager of IP and Technology Transfer with a multinational corporation, and a Senior Associate with a prominent national law firm.
Rob is a Past President of the Licensing Executives Society of Australia & New Zealand, Chair of the Licensing Executives Society’s International Life Science Committee, and a former Chair of the Industry/University Technology Transfer Committee. He is a Chartered Chemist, and was a member of the Intellectual Property Working Group for the National Innovation Summit.
Rob is one of only three Australians to have met the requirements for recognition as a Certified Licensing Professional, under an independent program initiated by the Licensing Executives Society of the USA and Canada. He has particular expertise and extensive experience in cross-border IP licensing and international R&D collaborations.
Rob is an experienced professional trainer in the management and commercialisation of intellectual property rights. In addition to presenting at industry and professional conferences worldwide, he has a growing practice in the delivery of tailored in-house training to clients’ management teams.
