Michael holds a Bachelor of Science and PhD in chemistry from the University of Bristol (UK), awarded for research into natural product synthesis and the study of stable carbenes.  After completing his PhD, he undertook postdoctoral research at Princeton University (USA) working in the field of physical-organic chemistry.  He continued his postdoctoral research at the University of Exeter (UK) working in the field of metal mediated asymmetric catalysis.

Michael has published fourteen peer reviewed research articles in international journals and has presented his work at scientific conferences.

Michael was awarded the Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University London (UK), and is a qualified UK and European patent attorney.

Before joining Spruson & Ferguson, Michael worked for a London-based firm of patent attorneys.
